Hey you!
First off, I’d like to thank you for stopping by to connect with me. The interwebs are saturated with sites, so I consider your virtual presence divine alignment.
I haven’t been online as long as most of my fellow millennials, so it may help for me to introduce myself…
My name is Zuri Ngozi! I was born and raised in Decatur, Georgia. (That’s near Atlanta if you never lived in Georgia.) Like most little Black girls with a knack for science and math, I had dreams of becoming a world-renowned physician when I grew up. I stuck with that path for all of my academic career and gained a love for research along the way.
I received my B.S. in Biology from Agnes Scott College in 2014, then spent two years serving with AmeriCorps as a math tutor in the Atlanta Public School System. During my hiatus, I took advantage of the money skills I learned from my childhood to stack my funds in preparation for graduate school. And while benefiting from those lessons in money management, I was moved to write my first book, Savings Grace, in an effort to teach other young folks simple ways to increase their savings as they navigate semi-adulthood.
I went back to school in 2020 to get my Ph.D. in Neuroscience. But after a year and a half, I realized the research career wasn’t for me and gracefully bowed out. Thanks to God’s divine timing, I continued writing throughout my short stint in graduate school. It actually got me through my career breakup (and the pandemic). And in that time, I was able to create volumes of poetry, a hefty catalogue of songs, and a few short stories and essays.
Writing has literally been my healing! Once I committed to writing as a profession and means of self-discovery and reflection, everything seemed to fall into place. Already, I’ve reconnected to the things that bring me joy and found new ways to live life pleasurably.
I’m excited about my journey and the experiences (lived and imagined) I’ve been gifted to share. And I hope that while I continue along this path, you find resonance with at least one of my stories.
Thanks again for stopping by!
Graciously,
Zuri Ngozi
